Education Minister, Ecaterina Andronescu, was dismissed by PM Viorica Dăncilă for the statements made in the Caracal case.
Andronescu said Thursday, in a television show, that she „learned from home not to get in a car with a stranger „, referring to the case of Alexandra, the 15-year-old girl kidnapped after trying to hitchhike to her home in Caracal.
Ecaterina Andronescu told Digi 24 that in her statements she did not intend to accuse Alexandra or her parents of having any fault in the Caracal case. She also said that she learned from the television that she was dismissed.
Andronescu claims that she was misunderstood. “My intention was to say that if parents do not tell them, we at school have an obligation to help children understand how to stay safe from criminals. We were planning to start a campaign in the fall, to educate them,” Andronescu said.
In a Facebook post, Dăncilă said she will recommend Culture Minister Valer-Daniel Breaz to take over as interim Education Minister.
